Goodbye White Box Assets!

23

I’ve now imported most of the assets I have built so far but am yet to texture all of them. This white box texture in UDK is temporary but gives me a good feel to the layout of my level. As you can see, I’ve added my built curved walls and stair case. The stairs at the moment look far too large and blocky, so that Will need sorting. The Archways have to have some of the smoothing groups sorted out too, but for now I’m fairly happy with how they look. I may think about reducing the number of them down later, it just depends what they look like with the central piece and vegetation added.

These three rooms ^ are looking a little bare still. Or rather VERY bear, which is quite intimidating. I think the room on the right will be my ‘Fern Room’ which will have an interesting floor and lots of green foliage. I plan to have a green man or some area of interest in the middle or end. This is the room that was added for gameplay as it gives a little bit of a direction change for the viewer and enables exploration. The rooms on the left are my entrance and wisteria room which are again enabling the player to meander a little rather than just heading straight for what they can see. I think this is important in any level, I don’t want mine to be JUST aesthetically pleasing.

I've added the chunky stairs to the terrain.. which seriously needs painting. Those chunky stairs are going to by slimmed down, at the moment I’m having trouble with collision issues. My player just does not like the gradient of it. I shall have to make to angle less steep so he doesn't keep sliding down. The collision mesh will have to intersect with the asset a little to allow for the correct gradient, but as the player can’t see his feet I’m not too worried about this.
